Backups that have actually been restored.
A green tick on the backup console tells you a job ran. It doesn't tell you whether you could rebuild the business from it. We test that, on a schedule, and keep the evidence.
Most backup problems are discovered on the worst day.
We've seen backups stored on the same network the ransomware encrypted, Microsoft 365 data assumed to be backed up by Microsoft, and restores that technically worked but took four days nobody had planned for.
Decide what matters, protect it properly, prove it works.
We agree with you how long each system can be down and how much data you can afford to lose, then design backups to meet that — with at least one copy isolated from your network and immutable.
Everything in the engagement, set out up front.

Agreed recovery times and data-loss limits per system.
Protected backups
Immutable, off-network copies including Microsoft 365.
Restore testing
Scheduled test restores with written results.

Questions we are asked most often.
Doesn't Microsoft back up Microsoft 365?
Microsoft keeps the service running and offers limited retention. It isn't a backup in the sense most businesses mean, and deleted or encrypted data can be lost.
How often should we test restores?
At least quarterly for critical systems, plus a fuller exercise annually.
What's immutable backup?
A copy that can't be changed or deleted for a set period, even by an administrator — which is exactly what stops ransomware destroying it.
Can you work with our existing backup product?
Often, yes. We'll only suggest a change if it can't meet your recovery needs.
